Privacy policy
FairSpeed has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics. This page explains what the app stores on your phone and what the servers involved in a speed test can see.

The short version
What FairSpeed does not collect
- No account, registration, or email address
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting sent to us
- No personal data collection, profiling, or data sale
- No data synchronized to a cloud service of ours
We do not operate any server that receives your test traffic: FairSpeed measures against servers run by others.
During a test
What the network can see
A speed test works by transferring data, so the servers involved necessarily see the request:
- Speed test servers. The app measures against LibreSpeed-compatible servers run by independent operators (universities, ISPs, companies). Like any speed test server, they see your IP address and the traffic of the test itself. We do not control these services: for this reason F-Droid tags FairSpeed with the NonFreeNet antifeature.
- IP lookup services. To show provider (ISP) information and pick the nearest server, the app queries get.geojs.io; to detect IPv4/IPv6 support it queries icanhazip.com. These services see your IP address as part of the request and handle it under their own policies.
Permissions
Only asked when needed, all optional
- Network permissions (internet, network state) are required to run the test and detect the connection type.
- Phone state and location are optional runtime permissions, used only to show detailed connection labels such as “5G (n78)”, “4G+ (B3+B7)”, or “WiFi 6 (5 GHz)”. If you decline them, the app falls back to generic labels and nothing changes otherwise.
- The app never uses the GPS and never sends your location anywhere: server selection uses the country estimated from your IP address.
On your phone
Data stored on the device
- Test history (results, connection type, provider) and settings are stored on the device only
- You can delete single items or clear the whole history at any time from the History screen
- Uninstalling the app removes everything
Notes
Children, changes, and contact
- FairSpeed collects no personal data, so it is not directed at or restricted from any age group in particular
